Week 29: Brain Development
The twenty-ninth week is a time of active brain and nervous system development.
Baby size: Zucchini (115-120 mm)
Baby development
Little fighter with a developed brain
Your baby is becoming increasingly ready for life outside. His brain can already control primitive breathing and body temperature.
What’s happening this week:
- Head: It is growing to accommodate the rapidly developing brain.
- Bones: Actively absorb calcium and become stronger.
- Adrenal glands: Begin producing hormones such as androgens, which will stimulate breast milk production after birth.
- Kicks: Movements become less chaotic and stronger and more purposeful.
Your fetus weighs about 1.15 kg, and its length is over 38 centimeters.
Changes for mom
Heartburn, constipation and other “quirks”
The growing uterus presses on all internal organs, which can intensify unpleasant symptoms. It is important to find ways to ease your condition.
What you may notice:
- Heartburn: Becomes more intense as the stomach is compressed.
- Constipation and hemorrhoids: Common problems due to hormone action and uterine pressure.
- Varicose vein enlargement: May worsen.
- Muscle and joint pain: Weight increases, and the load on the body grows.
These symptoms can be exhausting, but there are ways to combat them. Learn more in the article "Physical Changes of the Body During Pregnancy".
Overview
Week 29: The baby gets stronger, and you — wiser
In the twenty‑ninth week your baby is actively gaining weight through muscles and fat, making its kicks increasingly noticeable. You may notice a heel or elbow protruding on your belly!
He is now the size of a muscat pumpkin. His bones are hardening, and he needs a lot of calcium, which he draws from your body. This is a time when proper nutrition becomes critically important.
For you this is a period when the belly becomes the main character, affecting everything from walking to sleep. Fatigue may return, and everyday tasks will require more effort. This is normal — allow yourself to slow down.
Your baby's kicks are not just movements, but communication. They indicate her good well‑being. Enjoy this connection and don’t forget to count the movements daily.
