The name Nazariy comes from the Hebrew "Nazarius" – “dedicated to God”. In Christian tradition several saints named Nazariy are venerated, so the name is included in the church calendar. In Ukraine the name was widespread among the Cossack officer class and the intelligentsia of the 19th century, and today it is used mainly in families that value biblical and traditional names.
