11th month: on the brink of first steps

The eleven‑month‑old baby is actively preparing for his main achievement — walking independently. He is becoming increasingly independent and curious.

Overview

Eleven months is the final stretch before the first birthday. Your child stands on the brink of a huge breakthrough — walking independently. This whole month is dedicated to training and preparing for this step. Her independence grows each day, as does the desire to do everything "like adults".

Baby development

Most children can stand confidently without support and may take a few independent steps. She can lean over to pick up a toy. Actively uses both hands, can turn the pages of cardboard books. Vocabulary consists of a few simple words.

Milestones

  • Stands without support.
  • Can take the first independent steps.
  • Understands and follows more complex requests.
  • Shows a sense of humor.
  • Can eat with a spoon with your help.

Feeding

Encourage the child to eat independently, even if it results in a mess. This is an important stage of developing fine motor skills and independence.

Sleep

The number of daytime naps may start to decrease. Some children at this age begin transitioning to a single daytime nap, although for most it is still too early.

Safety

Purchase the first proper shoes for outdoor walks. At home, it’s best for the child to go barefoot for proper foot development.

Activities

Offer toys that can be rolled or pulled along. Play with a ball. Read a lot and discuss the pictures.
