6th month: sitting independently and starting solid foods

Half a year! This is an important milestone. The baby learns to sit without support, and the main event of the month is the start of introducing the first solid foods.

Overview

Six months is the true "equator" of the first year of life and a time of major changes. Your baby becomes increasingly independent. The main achievement of this month is the ability to sit without support, which opens a new perspective on the world. And the most important event is the start of a new, exciting stage in feeding — getting acquainted with adult food.

Baby development

Most children at this age sit confidently without support. Some begin making their first attempts to crawl "like scouts". Coordination improves, and the baby can hold a toy in each hand. The first teeth may start to erupt, often accompanied by discomfort.

Feeding

According to WHO recommendations, 6 months is the ideal time to start solid foods. Our foundational article "Introducing Solid Foods: When, How to Start, and Introduction Schemes" will become your reliable guide on this journey.

Sleep

The daily schedule becomes clearer. Usually there are still two daytime naps. A consistent bedtime ritual is very important for calm falling asleep.

Safety

When the baby starts sitting, make sure the crib base is lowered to its lowest position. Remove all hazardous items from the reachable area. This is the beginning of the era of home safety.

Activities

Offer the baby simple sorters and stacking pyramids. Play games that involve hiding and finding objects. Read picture books and name animals and items.
