7th month: first attempts at crawling and development of understanding

In the seventh month, many babies begin actively mastering crawling. Language comprehension and cause-and-effect understanding improve.

Overview

The seventh month is a period when your child's world rapidly expands thanks to new motor skills. The desire to explore everything around becomes a driving force for development. The baby increasingly understands you, communicates actively through babbling and gestures, and their personality shines brighter.

Baby development

Many children start crawling, though the style can vary: some crawl backward, some “like a scout,” and some classic. The child sits confidently, can sit up from a lying position on their own. They learn to manipulate objects: tapping them, throwing, exploring.

Milestones

  • Begins crawling.
  • Understands the word "no".
  • Develops object permanence (searches for a hidden toy).
  • Can drink from a spill-proof cup.
  • Babbling becomes more complex and melodic.

Feeding

Continue expanding the complementary feeding diet, introducing the baby to new flavors and textures. Offer food in pieces if you practice BLW (baby‑led weaning), but always under supervision.

Sleep

The number of daytime naps may decrease to two. Continue maintaining routines. The emergence of new skills (crawling) can temporarily disrupt sleep.

Safety

Your home turns into an obstacle course. Ensure that all hazardous items (wires, chemicals) are out of reach. Use outlet plugs and protect sharp corners.

Activities

Play hide‑and‑seek with toys. Build towers from blocks and let them be knocked down. Play ball by rolling it to each other.
