Irritability in mother
Overview
Irritability in mother after childbirth
Increased irritability, impatience, outbursts of anger over trivial matters — this is a very common symptom of the postpartum period. A woman may feel guilty about her "anger", but it is important to understand that this is not a character flaw, but a natural reaction of the mind and body to the extreme conditions she finds herself in.
Sources of irritability
Irritability is often the tip of the iceberg under which deeper reasons hide:
- Total sleep deprivation: This is the main factor. Lack of sleep lowers stress tolerance.
- Physical pain and discomfort: Constant pain from stitches, back, or breasts is exhausting.
- Feeling loss of control: Life with a newborn is completely unpredictable.
- Symptom of other conditions: Intense irritability can also be one of the manifestations of postpartum depression or anxiety disorder.
